Dorris Jewell entered this world on December 29, 1928, in Caldwell, Texas to parents; James Evans Taylor, Lola Lee Evans Taylor-Dixon, and Willie O. D. Dixon. She was the older of the two daughters; her younger sister, James Alma Taylor- Singleton, preceded her in death, November 1, 2016. Dorris is survived by her children: Vicki Jeanette Roy Stevenson (Curtis, (deceased)), Thurman Roy, Jr. (Barbara), Jodie Robert Sparks (Lorrine), and Kathy Rochelle Sparks….. “Robert Sparks, Jr.” Grandkids: Kasey Marsh (Trevia), Kerry Marsh, Thad Roy (Shonna), Rhoda Hewitt (Kenneth Ray), Andre’ Roy (Jamiesha), Jaime Sparks, and Maxie Taylor Jr. (Shajuan), and Ricky Shoals. Great Grandkids: 27, Great-Great Grandkids: 2, First Cousin Maurice Brown and Cousin Leo Young (Jewell) and many other dear family members and friends. Dorris graduated from Freeman High School (Caldwell, Texas). She was a house wife and protector for many years to her kids and grandkids. She later focused on her dream of being a nurse and worked diligently day and night shifts at Goodnight Memorial Hospital, Caldwell, Texas. She had a passion for helping others and nursing them back to good health, and mentoring every opportunity she encountered. She touched the lives of many that she was dedicated to helping during her nursing career. She loved each of her patients and was committed to them. She was a gifted listener, and protector to so many of her patients. She changed the lives of many with her passion of caring and showing love and support. Dorris was a devout Christian and lived her life to reflect her faith. She was dedicated to her Mission Group and Bible Study Group with her family and friends. The groups shared worship in each other’s homes, and prepared great dinners for all. She was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, in Caldwell, Texas, when she resided in the Caldwell, Texas. While living in Austin, Texas, she attended St. Mary’s Baptist Church, Pflugerville, Texas with her daughter, Kathy, and her family. We know that she was welcomed into Heaven by many Angels, and her Heavenly Father after a “life well lived”. Many will carry their own memories of time(s) shared with Dorris, including her dedication to family and friends, compassion, kindness, leadership, love of life and laughter, concern for others, humor, family vacations and the out spoken person she was to anyone, anywhere giving voice and advice when needed. And, this goes without saying of course…. her love of “always looking beautiful”, her personal fashion, style and that unconditional love for “all of her family”. She was a blessing to us and everyone that knew
