He was a beloved Husband, father, grand-father, great grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Don was born on January 10,1944 to Mizell and Lela Thorne in Bastrop, where he spent his formative years with his siblings Walter Sr (Richard) and Gwendolyn, He went on to attend and graduate from Emile High School. He began a career with AAFES (Army and Airforce Exchange Service) in military sales where he was employed for 33 years after retiring in 1993 at the age of 48. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, dedication and passion for helping others. After retirement, Don began working for his family business “Thorne Trucking”. He was self employed for 20 years then retired again after working with his sons for several years. Don was a devoted husband and father. Don and Adell began dating his Jr year of high school and they have been together since. He married his High School sweetheart November 3, 1961. He adored his wife and through their union of 62 years, three children were born, Donald Edward Jr., Debra Rene, John Philip. Don loved spending time with his children, educating them on life and automobiles. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced. He carried this same attitude on to his relationships with his grand-children, and great-grandchildren. In his free time, Don enjoyed fishing, tinkering on cars and trucks, watching game shows, playing bingo, traveling, visiting the casino, enjoying good food.watching the Dallas Cowboys and tending to the animals. He was an active member in his family church. He served as a trustee, treasure, sang in the choir, and was a major inspiration for the building of the current church. Don is preceded in death by his parents Mizell and Lela, his sibling Samuel, brother in law Pete, son Donald Jr and grandson Quentin. He is survived by his loving wife, Adell, sibilings, Doris Jean, Gwendolyn, Walter Sr. (Inez), children, Debra (Gerald), and John (Deflora), a daughter in law, Rosemary, grandchildren, Raynard (Shalanda), Doneyelle, Donald III (Nakisha), Gerlicia (Joseph),and John Jr. (Kathleen), great-grandchildren Dontavier, Iyanna, Rayshad, Koriana, Samya , Kalicia, Dylan, Denym, Jireh, Jezeniah, Gabrielle and Nelia Greene (Walter) a cousin who was considered a sister. His memory will be cherished by all.
