Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. . Conny’s energy was reminiscent of the day he was born, bringing in a fresh sense of hope and excitement for what was ahead and always departing with a big southern tackle of charm. During his childhood, Conny found joy in being a little rascal with his brothers and sister. He often reminisced about playing in his grandmother Sewilla’s yard and how he loved her good, wholesome cooking. Which initiated his appetite for love, life, laughs, and, particularly, his passion for down-home cooking. Oh’ yeah~ he threw down in the kitchen too! Conny’s roots were firmly established in his belief in God, love for family, and sense of community, thanks to the support of his siblings and parents. Conny discovered it easy to make friends and apply himself in school, learning new traits and social skills, and finding a talent that would take him to places that would touch many lives as ordained by God. He had a life full of accomplishments as a scholar, athlete, father, grandfather, minister, husband, friend, and, most importantly, son of GOD. Conny had a natural talent for sports with a gladiator frame. He was multi-talented in a variety of sports, such as track and field, basketball, and swimming, to name a few, but ultimately found his gift and calling in American Football. As a multifaceted student at Austin High School, Conny had a range of articles that contributed to the school’s culture of student pride. His commitment to football, teamwork ethics, and sportsmanship on the field earned him a spot as an enthusiastic Longhorn to play under head coach Fred Akers at the University of Texas- Austin. Conny’s contribution led to numerous victories on record. Conny also had received a blessing and became a father of his bouncing baby girl Lisa Marie Brooks with then high school sweetheart Susan Bonner (Mother). Although circumstances led Conny away from the university for a period, little did they know that he would later return to claim his degree. As life progressed, Conny was always a hard worker and was seen as a leader, and people would follow. He was a stand-up friend and fought for equality, even if it was to his detriment. He always had the biggest heart to help, even if it meant giving the shirt off of his own back when he had nothing else to wear. He had a giving spirit and was happy if he could support within his power. As he matured into a man, his relationship with God would strengthen. He witnesses supernatural revelations throughout his life and was an avid believer in Jesus Christ. There was nothing that God couldn’t do and he began to follow in pursuit of spreading the word to others as a servant of the kingdom of God. He found his church home at Greater Love Baptist Church in 1997 as a member. Later on, he fell in love and joined Aretha Jackson in holy matrimony, raising Nicholas Sinclair Cooper, Gracelyn Ava Cooper, and David Duane Grant. The Lord led Conny to the ultimate servanthood, to serve as a minister in 2004. This is where he could have the most impact by doing what he loved the most, preaching the word of GOD and ministering to God’s people. Whether it was offering sustenance or walking up to the corners of the neighborhood to pray over people to restore hope. Conny thrived in everything that he put his mind to. That was his way of chasing life’s objectives. He made the conclusive decision to pursue and complete his education with discipline and determination. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development. He was a genuine educator whose goal was to empower people with knowledge to be the best version of themselves. He believed that anyone can be successful if they applied themselves and put their mind to it. On the other hand, he also believed that if it wasn’t predestined, God always had something superior for your life’s purpose. Conny knew how always to make you feel better if things didn’t unfold as anticipated. He was knowledgeable about every aspect of dreams, hopes, and life’s rapid, humbling, and yet gratifying changes that enabled him to relate to people from all backgrounds. He was and still is highly respected by many who have had the opportunity to meet him. If he left you with one thing, he would want you to pursue a relationship with God. As he is mindful of the eternal grace, love, and prosperity God has in store for you. God will never leave you or forsake you. You can consistently cast your worries and anxieties on him and he will show you the way. He wouldn't want you to cry, but instead, smile because he is running, dancing, smiling, and waving as the gates of Heaven embraced him. May you be blessed, my brother. May you be blessed, my sister.
