    Vivian Jeannette Evans

    July 26, 1934 - March 29, 2020

Vivian was born July 26, 1934 in Austin, Texas to Vivian Rosalie Smith and Arthur Van Smith in Austin, Texas. Vivian went to Rosewood Elementary, Kealing Junior High School and L. C. Anderson High School. Vivian married Alvin R. Evans Sr. in May of 1953, there were three children from this union: Alvin Evans Jr., Erick W. Evans, Della A. Evans Guidry. Vivian played an active role in making sure all of her children were active in the church, and highly encouraged them to go to college and pursue their dreams. Vivian attended church at an early age, was baptize at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church; and later moved membership to Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. She served at New Lincoln Missionary Baptist Church as First Lady for 43 plus years under the leadership of her husband and Pastor A.R. Evans Sr. Vivian had a love for music; she played the piano for many years, and was even the musician at Zion Rest Missionary Baptist Church while her husband was the pastor. Vivian also played for the Sunday School at New Lincoln Missionary Baptist Church until her health would no longer allow her to continue. She loved the Lord so much that she wanted to use her talents to play music, sing in the choir, teach the Word of God in Sunday School, Mission Society, and lessons during the prayer ministry. Vivian was a student of the Bible, she understood the grace and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, and she shared this gospel by being the guest speaker at many women programs in the Austin area and around the State of Texas. Vivian worked at the Internal Revenue Services IRS) for 30+ years before retiring in 1989. Vivian leaves to cherish her memories three children: Alvin R. Evans Jr. (Cedal), Erick W. Evans Sr. (Barbara), Della Guidry (Theo); ten grandchildren: Letisha, Alvin III, Cloe, Alexis, Neichelle, Erick Jr., Theo III, Arianne, Jason, Mark; three great-grands: Arianna, Sharif, Sloan, Henry IV, Alvin IV; sisters: Della Pleasant, Barbara White (deceased); two brothers: Willie Smith (deceased), Carrol Eugene Smith (deceased); a host of nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
