Ruby Gene Harris was born on July 8, 1943 to Rev. Wallace Chambers and Esther Mae Peace in Austin, Texas. Ruby received her education at L.C. Anderson High School, where she played several sports. She excelled in track, basketball and softball which she played well into her adulthood. She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. Ruby was a dedicated and faithful servant at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist church for over 20 years under the leadership of both Pastor Earl Harris and Pastor A. W. Anthony Mays. She later moved her membership to Abundant LIFE Community Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor DeChard I.H.M. Freeman. She served willingly in any area needed and she was a member of the S.W.A.G and D.I.V.A ministries at Abundant Life. Ruby was united in holy matrimony to the late Richard Harris on June 25, 1961. They were married over 40 years and to this union they were blessed with four children whom she dearly loved. Ruby was employed at the IRS for where she retired after 30 years of service, she then worked for Austin Community College for several years and retired in 2017. Ruby’s life was rich and blessed with a wonderful family and many friends who loved her dearly. She loved chatting on the phone with her friends, watching Family Feud, and she was an avid Texas Longhorn, Dallas Cowboy and San Antonio Spurs fan. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. She was an amazing woman of God who will be missed but never forgotten. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Harris, her daughter Deborah Harris, granddaughter LaKendra Harris, brother George Smith, and sister Ruth Brown. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Phyllis Harris, Pamela Harris-Reece, and Brittney Harris; brothers Leroy Chambers (Tommie Lee), Robert Chambers (Hattie); sisters Edna Mae McLennan, and Carolyn Williams (Rev. Larry). Ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
