Brother Nathanial “Nathan” Harvey, the youngest of four children was born to the late Marshall and Ida Lee Harvey on July 20, 1937 in Temple, Texas. The family moved to Taylor, Texas and united with Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church where Nathan became very active in the Youth Department. Nathan graduated from O. L. Price High School on May 24, 1956. He was member of Coach Edward “Bud” Elder’s Fighting Panthers football team and was also a track star. He joined the United States Marine Corps in June of 1956 served from 1956 to 1958. He immediately returned to his hometown of Taylor. On December 22, 1960, Nathan married the love of his life, Iola Johnson of Taylor, Texas. After their marriage, they moved to Austin, Texas. Nathan went to work for the Travis County Sheriff’s Department; Iola was a nurse. They later moved to Dallas, Texas and Nathan went to work for the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department and retired from the United States Post Office. They moved to Pflugerville, Texas where they lived until Iola’s death on April 12, 2002. Brother Harvey moved back home town of Taylor and reunited with Allen Chapel AME and again became an active Steward, Trustee and was a member of the Male Chorus. He remained active until his death. Brother Harvey loved God, his family, his church. He was a fun loving person; he loved laughter and people and he loved Taylor, Texas. Brother Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, his wife a sister, Pearl Virginia Prater, and his brother, Ernest “Rusty” Harvey. Brother Harvey leaves to cherish his love and fond memories to his sister, Doris Evelyn Ward, niece Carla Marie Prater; and niece Vonda Loran Harvey-Smith (Robert); nephews Stanley Darnell Harvey, Harold Dean Harvey; a special friend Catherine S. Johnson Brother Thomas Blunson and other family members and friends.
