Laura left our physical world on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at the age of 86. She is remembered as a woman who put God first in all things. Laura was born in Taylor, TX and graduated from Price High School in 1955. Laura later went to work at the Travis State School for Mental Health/Mental Retardation where she spent 26+ years in food services. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Laura loved to read her bible, spend time in her yard, loved listening to gospel music, and helping others. Laura so loved her family and friends and although sometimes tough love was needed, she never stopped praying for those she held close to her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents Hattie and Calvin, two sisters Rosie Lee and Gracie, three brothers Edward (Didlum), Willie, and Jack. She is survived by three daughters Barbara Sutton, Arlatricia Samuel (Frank), and Shirley Kelly (Larry), one son Richard Smith (Gloria), one sister Sophie Ross, eight grandchildren Shawntell Walton (Christopher), Terence Smith, Toree Veal (Michael), Kisha Smith, Richard Jr. Smith, Drew Kelly, Shantiana Smith, and Aeleya Smith, four great grandchildren Torrell Heflin, Micah Walton, John Walton, and Michaela Veal, a special niece Sharon Fitch, as well as other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
