Mrs. Juanita Farr Mungin, daughter of the late Alonzo Johnson and Nannie Etheleen Chimilio was born August 29, 1940 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She entered her eternal rest to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at the home of daughter Sarita Burks. The family relocated to Manhattan, New York where Juanita graduated from George Washington High School. On August 30, 1958 she was united in holy matrimony to Sgt. Thomas Mungin, Jr. United States Airforce. This union was blessed with 4 children. Juanita professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Bethel Methodist AME Church, Manhattan, New York where she was a dedicated member and served faithfully as an usher. In 1980, Juanita relocated her family to South Carolina take care of her grandmother, Fammie Mae Farr who passed away in 1980. She attended University of South Carolina Spartanburg, SC. School of Nursing. She was also a faithful member of Harrison Grove Baptist Church where she severed on the Usher Board, Sanctuary Choir and Prison Ministry. Juanita retired from South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind after 25 years of service. She was also a dedicated Meals on Wheels volunteer for over 10 years. Juanita relocated to Austin, TX where she was a devoted member at One Way Baptist Church, Round Rock, TX. There, she served as Ministry Leader for the Senior Fellowship Ministry, Black History program as well as a faithful servant of the Culinary Ministry. Her Christian life, generous spirit and pleasant personality, was as beautiful as the flowers she loved so well. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. Juanita was preceded in death by her son, the late Thomas Mungin Jr, Brother David Johnson, Brother Horace Johnson Sr. and son-in-law, the late Douglas Burks. Her life will continually be cherished in the lives of her children: Ethel L. Gaffney, Atlanta, GA, Jenice A. McKissick, of Austin TX, Sarita L. Burks, Austin, TX, son-in-law, Keith McKissick, Austin, TX son-in-law Anthony Weldon Gaffney, Atlanta, GA and, Austin TX, Sister Beatrice Meadows Spartanburg, SC, Brother Alonzo Johnson Spartanburg, SC, James “Sonny” Clowney Baltimore, MD; Grandchildren, Kendall L. Mungin, Christopher O. Mungin, Thomas Mungin, Demetrius T. Crocker , Terrell A. McKissick, Shanice E. McKissick, Weldon Gaffney II and Elisha D. Burks, nine Great Grandchildren; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
