James Howard Foster was born on October 12th, 1930 in Bastrop Texas to Curly and Anna (Blaylock) Foster, the youngest of four sisters, and departed this life on Friday, May 6th, 2022. He graduated from Emile High School in Bastrop Texas and would later join the United States Army where he served his country during the Korean War, and as a Korean War Veteran was awarded the Korean service medal with five brass stars and the United Nations service medal. After an honorable discharge from the military, he worked for Camp Mabry Army Base as a landscaper prior to working for the City of Austin Sanitation Department until his retirement. He was a devoted husband and father to his wife Lula Mae (Pye) Foster and five children during their 40-year union. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Hills Prairie, Texas, and served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher for many years. He also served as a Deacon at St. Johns Progressive Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, and would later join Mt. Zion, serving faithfully until declining health prevented his attendance. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and barbecuing, and was known for an all-day, low-simmer BBQ sauce that was good enough to drink. He could tell a good joke and loved being with his family and friends and spending time listening to his favorite music. He is preceded in death by his parents Curly and Anna, three sisters, Anna Pearl Foster, Vivian Foster, and Annie Mae Mason. He leaves five children to cherish his memory, Gretna (Leroy deceased) Holiday, Cedric (Tonya) Foster, Anna (Glenn) Marzett, LaSonia (Michael) Knight, Kavin (Charlotte) Foster along with his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
