I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7 Dorothye Marie Johnson Harrison was born February 18, 1944 in Yorktown, Texas to Evelyn Neal and Clarence Johnson Sr. She attended the Lott Canada school system in Beeville Texas and graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 1962. She continued her education and attended the Huston-Tillotson University with a concentration in Accounting and Taxation. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized. She moved her membership to St. Edward Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A. Dewitty and later to Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A.W. Anthony Mays. Dorothye would actively participate in the Women’s Ministry, Senior Choir, Senior Mission (Sara Circle) just to name a few. She was also a Mission and Sunday School Teacher. Dorothye started in her career as an Investigator with the Texas Department of Human Services. She worked tirelessly 30 years with the State of Texas and was able to retire as a Senior Auditor in 1999. During this time, Dorothye worked for Mt Sinai Baptist Church, JC Penney’s, and served as a Board Member for the Greater Texas Credit Union. After 17 years of service, Dorothye retired as the Church Secretary in 2017. Her working career was a reflection of her giving and serving spirit. We are thankful for her sharing this gift with her family and friends. Dorothye’s passion for traveling was extraordinary. If you talked to her for just a minute and you mentioned traveling, her face would light up and bags were packed. Dorothye was more than happy to share her traveling experiences. Her dream trip was to go to the Holy Land: Jerusalem. She fulfilled this dream in 2018. Her display of the love for her family was a blessing to behold. Dorothye loved spending time with her family. She loved her family so much that she worked on creating the historical background for both sides of her family tree. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Tanny Johnson, and sister Mary Johnson Saunders. Dorothye leaves to cherish her fond memories: brothers Clarence Johnson Jr, Luther Johnson, Donald Johnson and Lawrence Bookman III, of Houston, Texas; Rufus (Dorothy) Johnson of Kyle, Texas; Robert (Sheryl) Johnson, Lucien Johnson, Carlton (Cynthia) Johnson of Victoria, Texas, sisters: Shirley (Elsworth) Rogers of San Antonio, Texas and Patricia Barnett of Victoria, Texas, special cousin: Elnora Barrs, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
