    Delores Laverne Alspaugh

    August 16, 1946 - December 19, 2021

After a courageous battle with cancer, she departed this life in her home surrounded by her loving family and friends, on Sunday, December 19, 2021. Delores had many employers throughout her lifetime as she reared her six children, Delores was employed by the State of Texas with the Cosmetology Commission in 1974, where she climbed the career ladder and became the first African American Executive Director of that agency. She retired from State Government in 1999. Delores was a lifelong baptized member of the St. Peter's United Methodist Church where she served in numerous leadership ministry capacities which included Chairperson of Administrative Council, President of the Ushers/Greeters Ministry, Chairperson of the Staff-Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Chairperson of the Committee of Finance, member of the St. Peter's Adult Ministry Seniors and a member of the Adult Sunday School Class #1, Delores was married to Randolph Alexander Alspaugh in 1977 and he preceded her in death. There were no children born to this union, One son, Robert Terrance (Pee Wee) Smiith preceded her in death, also her mother Ola Mae Smith and her father Robert Curtis Smith, "My children are my heart and I give God thanks and praise for blessing me with them." Survivors are her brothers, Harvey C. Smith, Sr., and his wife Verdell Smith, Don Michael Isaacs of Austin, Texas and Bishop Samuel Doyle and his wife Nodia of Fresno California.; her brother-in-law John C. Alspaugh of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Her children: sons, Gregory M. Smith, Sr., and Yolandon; Reginald Smith, Sr., Jimmie Lee Hardison, Jr., all of Austin, Texas; daughters Ola Marie Thompson and her husband Tony of Leander, Texas, Pamela Alspaugh Carson and Karen Alspaugh McDowell, both Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was blessed with grandchildren and great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends,
