She was born to parents Marcus Hanna Crenshaw and Etha Mae (Winn) Crenshaw on October 22, 1932. Dee Dee was the 6th out of eight children born and grew up in St. John Colony, Texas. On February 19, 1955 she married Frank Richard Bennett. They were married until his death in 1998. They were blessed with two children, Renee who passed away soon after being born, and their son Frank. During their marriage, Dee Dee and her husband united with Emmanuel Baptist Church and Rosewood Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the Senior Choir, belonged to Senior Mission #1 and was a Deaconess. Later the couple joined St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church in Austin. Professionally, Dee Dee graduated from Draughons Business School in Bookkeeping and Durham Business College in Computer. She was also a licensed Cosmetologist and Notary. She retired from the Hogg Foundation. There she made lifelong friends who never forgot her birthday, Christmas, or Mother’s Day. After her husband’s death, she moved back to St. John Colony, to be closer to family. During that time, she attended St. John Regular Missionary Baptist Church. Sometime later, she moved back to Austin where she eventually became a resident of Parsons House Retirement Community. At Parsons House, Dee Dee knew everyone! And if you ever visited her, she probably tried to introduce you to every single one of them. It was nothing to see Dee Dee working the front desk, preparing, and putting out decorations in the main dining room, playing bridge, coloring, chair aerobics, cheering on Longhorn football, watching movies with friends, or attending Bible study. She loved having her nails polished and always tried to look her very best. Dee Dee leaves behind her son, Frank Bennett (Sharon) of San Antonio, granddaughter, Jennifer Bennett of Lithonioa, GA, sisters, Rosa Taylor of Mount Pleasant, TX, Ophelia Knox of Austin, Effie Jackson, Houston, TX, Julia Moore (Will) of Elgin, TX and a large host of caring and loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Frank Richard Bennett, husband, Renee Bennett, daughter, Marcus Crenshaw, father, Etha Crenshaw, Mother, Lawrence Crenshaw, brother, Lessie Graham, sister, Cleola Franks, sister. It’s hard to turn the page when you know that someone you loved so dearly won’t be in the next chapter, but the story must go on! A beloved wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, an aunt and friend to many…forever loved and never forgotten. Dee Dee is now at peace in the loving arms of our Holy Father!
