June 16, 1938 - May 26, 2020
Annie was born on June 16, 1938, in Elroy, Texas, to the late Annella B. Gildon (Rev. Albert Taylor), and James Swan. Annie attended Kealing Middle School and the Old L.C. Anderson High School, where she entertained her peers on the drill team as a Jackette. She completed her Senior year graduating from Giddings H.S. Later, she attended Austin Community College in pursuit of her Associates Degree in Electronics to further her career at IBM. Annie became the first female Electronic Lab Technician in her department; paving the way for other women in her field. She retired from IBM in 1993. On June 15, 1957, Annie married Fred Rogers, who preceded her on to glory. Into this union were born five children; Edward, Debra, Wanda, Marie and Cynthia. Loving daughter Debra and son-in-law Frank Thomas also preceded her on to glory. Annie professed her love of Christ at an early age and was a member of First Baptist Church on Heflin Ln., under the leadership of the late Rev. Vernon Manor Sr. She later joined House of the Lord Fellowship Church, under the leadership of Pastors Jim and Lou Lillard. Affectionately known as Sister Annie, she was a faithful and devoted member, receiving countless awards and recognition. She served as a Hostess for over 25 years, was actively involved in the Jubilee department and the Ladies Board. Annie kept a sharp mind by engaging in Seek and Find word games, Jigsaw puzzles and painting. She loved to travel, share stories of her adventures and bargain shop. Her car always stopped for a thrift store or garage sale. She kept her family stocked with essentials and necessities, fondly known as a ‘Granny Box’; which were given as Christmas gifts, when you moved into a new home, or went away to college. She liked to watch game shows such as Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, The Price is Right and Family Feud. She also enjoyed Westerns, Mysteries, Dramas, Judge Judy and NCIS (more so for Shemar Moore). She loved to listen to music (especially singers such as Barry White and Al Green). She also liked to play card games and would not just let you win. She had no problem with beating you and then smiling about it. Annie blessed everyone she encountered with her slick sense of humor, her wisdom and her positive energy. Characterized as a woman of courage, strength, integrity and resilience; Annie was selfless, faithful, loyal, giving and naturally loving. She had a quiet spirit that filled the room. She was soft but firm, delicate and tough; simply put, Annie was a rare force of nature and a saint all in one!
