AMANDA "CHICKEN" CALDWELL
April 12, 1948 - September 17, 2018
Amanda “Chicken” Caldwell was born April 12, 1948 to Dempsey Caldwell Sr. and Willida Young-Caldwell. She was the second youngest of four children. Amanda knew the Lord and accepted Christ at an early age. Amanda attended school in the Austin Independent School District. She attended three different Elementary schools: L.L. Campbell, Blackshear, and Gilbert Elementary school, in Gilbert, Arizona. She also attended Kealing Junior High and graduated from L.C. Anderson High School in 1966. While at L.C. Anderson, Amanda became Cheer Captain in which she would also take part in mentoring the younger cheerleaders, was nominated Football Sweetheart, participated in track and field, and was a member of the softball team. Amanda was known for being a part of the “In Crowd” while attending L.C. Anderson High School. After high school, she attended Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, TX. Amanda decided to join the workforce and gained employment with IBM. While working at IBM, she participated in a bowling league, where she and her team won many tournaments, trophies, and awards. She remained an employee with IBM until she retired in 1998. Amanda was known as the neighborhood mom. She opened her home to many of her children’s friends and to family members. On September 17, 2018, the Lord called Amanda home after a long and well fought battle with breast cancer. Amanda was preceded in death by her grandparents Jake and Amanda Young, Johnnie and Lennie Caldwell, her father Dempsey Caldwell Sr., her brother Dempsey “Deda” Caldwell Jr., her niece Karen Hawkins and her long-time best friends Wallace and Glenda Young and Maxine Sutton. Amanda leaves behind to cherish her memories two sons, Brandon Caldwell (Toni) and Brian Caldwell; her mother Willida Young-Caldwell; her sisters, Lula Caldwell-Hawkins, Lennie Caldwell-Hunter, Barbara Grayson (Willie); cousin Andrew Brown (Margie); nephews Eugene Hawkins, Kevin Caldwell (Shannon), Johnny Hunter III (LaShonda), Jason King; nieces Shauna Hawkins and Charlotte Medearis ; four grandchildren, Braelyn Caldwell, Brian Caldwell Jr., Brandon Caldwell Jr., and Bria Caldwell; God-Daughters Kelli Walker (Darryl), Marcie Fields-Brown (Min. Dennis Brown), Yvonne Henderson, Min. Karal Fields; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
