August 18, 2025 Lucy Faye Hughes received her wings and was crowned with a halo. She was born in Magnolia Mississippi to the late Thomas Barnes and Dinah Barnes-Dillion. After relocating to Chicago's westside, she met and married her former spouse DeCalvin Hughes to this union they had 3 adventurous children-Kelvin, Timothy, and Carlton whom they adored. Lucy worked at the Chicago Public Schools District for years. As a teacher's aide, a substitute teacher for special needs kids, and a lunchroom attendant In her journey through life and reconnecting with family, after years of vital research, she learned that she was 1/8 Cherokee Indian from the Creek Nation. Lucy welcomed countless family members and friends into her home over the years. She was the primary caregiver for her mother Dinah Barnes- Dillion (Mama Dinah), until her passing. Lucy had a strong love church, and for making pound cakes and egg pies. She also had a strong belief in community through friendships and giving back in God's name. Lucy was an adventurous shopper who always looked for bargains for herself and others. She always believed that matching shoes, hats, and purses was a necessity for all occasions. Lucy Faye was a strong believer in God. She received Christ at an early age, in Magnolia Mississippi at St. James Baptist Church. Once She got older, she relocated to Chicago under Pastor F. Piper ..joined and became a mother of 1st Baptist International Church. Later around 2017, Lucy relocated to Pflugerville, Tx and joined Sweet Home Baptist Church-The Pinnacle of Praise in Round Rock, Tx. She was a part of the women's prayer meetings and loved to bake cakes for so many. Survivors include her children, Kelvin (Denise) Hughes, Timothy Hughes, Carlton (Charlene) Hughes, grandchildren Denzell Brown, Timera Hughes, Damien Hughes, Taniah Hughes, Elika Hughes, Robert, Cherri, and Brittney Jones, godchildren Wendy Moore and Eugene Washington her sisters Hattie Brown, Delois Barnes, and Debra (Raymond) Wilcher; her brothers Zeberdee (Gwen) Barnes, Thomas James (Sharon) Barnes, McTerry (Laverne) Barnes, Bobby (Maria) Barnes; the extended Barnes Family; nieces, nephews, and special cousins and so many cherished friends Predeceased family members include her parents and sisters Clara Simmons, Herley Gulledge, Mildred Burns, Lussettie Henderson; brothers Ezell and Burnell Barnes.
