Though we mourn his passing, we find comfort in knowing that Louis is now in the presence of the Lord. He peacefully entered eternal rest on February 13, 2025, at the age of 79. Louis was born on March 12, 1945, in Cedar Creek, Texas, to Lillie Mae Hodge and Everett Walker. He was a proud graduate of L.C. Anderson High School, where he built lasting friendships and fond memories. After completing high school, he went on to serve honorably in the United States Marines, where he dedicated himself to his country and earned an honorable discharge. His service shaped his character and instilled in him a deep sense of duty, which he carried throughout his life. A man of faith, Louis accepted God at an early age and lived his life with kindness, humility, and devotion to his beliefs. Louis was passionate about many things in life, especially his love for sports. He loved the Boston Celtics, Texas Longhorns, and was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. Louis enjoyed watching every game with excitement and enthusiasm and always hopeful for a winning season. He enjoyed providing play-by-play commentary and sharing his thoughts on every game with friends and family. Before retiring from the City of Austin, Louis James Hodge dedicated many years to public service. He then spent the next 37 years working for the State of Texas (Texas Facilities Commission), where he earned the respect of his colleagues and was known for his unwavering dedication until his passing. Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie Mae Hodge and Everett Walker, sister, Bennie Jewel White, brother, Herman Hodge, sister, Vera Winn, and his brother, Charles Walker. He is survived by his children, Kimbralon Barnes (and husband, John), Louis Hodge Jr. (and wife, Jasmin), and his cherished grandchildren, Chelsea Martin, Kayla Howard, Kevin Edwards, LaShanne Hodge, Jeremy Hodge, Louis Hodge, Marlei Phillips, and London Hodge. Louis is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Eri’Yan Walker, Erijah Walker, Ayden Walker, Jeremiah Pernell, Sarai Howard, Stefon Howard, Ylan Howard, Kairo Edwards, Samiyah Cherry, Malakhi Cherry, and Kyree Hodge, his former spouse and lifelong friend, Helen Hodge; his sisters, Joetta Houston, Georgia Thompson, and Linda Madison; and numerous other relatives, friends, and loved ones who will miss him dearly. Louis James Hodge Sr. will always be remembered with love by those whose lives he touched. “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
