His loving wife Lisa was by his side. Joe was born on February 14th, 1955, in Snyder Texas. He was the son of the late Ira Shy Jr and Sadie Marie Martin Shy. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, John Hunt and Luther Laster, and a sister Sherry Laster. Joe spent his early years as a custom commercial contractor traveling across the county for a prominent nursing home chain. After returning to Texas, he eventually settled in San Angelo. It was there that he gave his heart to the Lord and eventually accepted his call to the ministry. He assumed co-pastorate of the First United Pentecostal Church along with his pastor Rev. Edna Capps. As Alzheimer's disease began to ravage her body, he took over full-time pastorate for the church. Pastor Shy and the saints of the church continued to care for her around the clock as the scripture instructs. Under the leadership of Pastor Shy along with many years of Rev Capps prayers, the church experienced a mighty move of God with many coming to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. Joe was an ordained minister of Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ. In 1998 he founded the Apostolic Praise Center, located in Georgetown Texas. He possessed the heart of a true shepherd and looked after his flock with all diligence. He eventually married the love of his life, Lisa, who joined him in the ministry. Even during his lengthy illness, he regarded the church as his number one priority. They could call on Joe day or night and he would be there for them. Close to the time of his passing, Lisa asked him about his heart's desire and his reply was “to see the church go forward”. Joe was a gifted pianist, singer, and songwriter. A child prodigy, he became the church pianist and wrote his first original composition at the age of seven. For a time he wrote and produced custom commercial jingles and at the time of his passing he was in the process of recording an instrumental gospel album. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Lisa Panasuk Shy. “Joe my heart is broken, you were my everything. I will hold you close until we meet again” He is survived by 2 sisters Mary and Donna Smith and her husband Jerry and one brother Montie Shy and his wife Josie, two sisters in laws Joan Hunt and Jeannie Laster. As well as several nieces and nephews and cousins. A special thanks to the members of the Apostolic Praise Center for all of your many prayers and faithfulness to your pastor. Thanks to Stacy and Melissa Grant for the love you showed Joe. It will never be forgotten. A homecoming service will be held on Friday, April 12th at The Church of The Holy Spirit 611 West 9th Street, Georgetown Texas 78626. There will be a time of visitation from 12:00-1:00 with the service beginning at 1:00. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteousness judge, shall give me at that day: Second Timothy 4:7-8 In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family requests a gift of funds in any amount to offset the significant cost of Pastor Shy’s last illness.
