Tributes

On September 25, 1949, in Madisonville, Texas, the Lord blessed Wilma and Dewitt Oliver with identical twin sons, James and Gene Oliver. Through years of prayers, joys, and blessings these twins grew and shared the love and friendship of many. James gave his life to Christ at a young age under the Methodist Denomination. In his adult life, he changed his denomination to Baptist and was baptized at by Pastor Ameal Jones at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. He Graduated from Jack Yates High School in 1968. After which he joined the military serving in the Airforce for three years, two in Vietnam. His first-born child was Jerelyn Petrice Mitchell. James married Loyce Tolbert. To that union there were born three boys, James Jr., Ken Shapell and Dominique Jermaine. James was later joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Brenda Joyce Lewis. To this union they shared one son, Richard Oliver. During this amazing journey of love, they shared countless wonderful memories. James was a dedicated employee at the Texas State Comptroller of Public Accounts Office for 20 years. He was ordained as a Deacon at the Cornerstone Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Michael Rhodes. He served as Deacon at Nevertheless Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Clark Jackson and was an active Deacon at the Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Round Rock TX under the leadership of Pastor Michael Oyedokun and Pastor K. A .Shawn Dooley until his death. He was most proud of his service as a Deacon. One of James’ favorite scriptures was Psalms 1:1-7. Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, or sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall proser. The ungodly are not so; but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgement, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous; but the way of the ungodly shall perish. KJV James was preceded in death by his son, Richard Oliver; daughter Jerelyn Petrice Oliver; his mother, Wilma Oliver; his father, DeWitt Oliver; brother Ronald and his twin brother Gene Oliver; Grandmother, Willie Mae Oliver and Grandfather Tanto Oliver. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Brenda Oliver (Pflugerville) sons James Oliver Jr. (Austin), Ken Oliver (Houston), Dominique Oliver (Houston); Aunt Cleotha Turner (Houston); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
