James Roy Johnson ( Jim) was the third child of ten born to Hattie Odessa and Charles Henry on February 5, 1940 in Tollette, Arkansas. He enjoyed a close relationship with his siblings: Seniora, Doris, Norma Faye Vivian Marie, Dorothy, Vickie, Charlotte, Charles, and Robert that distance and time could not diminish. James attended Langston High School and graduated in 1958 as valedictorian, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He joined the United States Air Force in 1962 and his military career expanded 20 years, working as a Contracting Supervisor and as a Security Law Enforcement Specialist achieving the rank of Master Sergeant (MSgt) . After traveling to many destinations around the world, James made Austin, Texas his home in 1982. After his illustrious career in the Air Force, James embarked on another career with the City of Austin and the State of Texas as a Procurement Specialist for over 15 years, finally retiring for good in 1995. This second retirement allowed James to focus his full attention on his great love of entrepreneurship as a former owner of Yogurt Etc. but his greatest passion was “Buy-Sell-Trade.” James loved shopping at the Thrift Stores and Goodwill everywhere he went, James met and fell in love with Ruby in 1989 and later married in 1996. They enjoyed traveling, cruising and especially going to horse race tracks including the Derby’s. James went to be with the Lord, 3rd of January, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Seniora Scott, Doris Collins, Norma Faye Kincaid, and Vivian Mary Avery and son Dax Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Ruby Johnson, son Calvin (Dennis) Johnson, siblings Dorothy Gibson (Nathaniel), Vickie Johnson, Charlotte Johnson, Charles Douglas Johnson ( Joyce), and Robert Wesley Johnson, grandchildren Braylin Johnson (Brandi), Ebony Johnson, Temeka Thatch, and Jaylen Elkins-Johnson , and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. James was a great man, highly respected and well-loved. He was a strong family man who loved his wife with all his being. He never met a stranger and went out of his way to help people in need. Even though he didn’t attend church regularly he was a man of great faith that loved the Lord. He mentored hundreds of people over the years and influenced countless others. Those who knew him rest well in knowing that his life was a blessing to many. He leaves behind a great legacy in the lives of the people he touched. He lived fully in “the dash".
