Tributes

Deacon Freddie Lee Strong was born May 17, 1941 in DeKalb, Texas to Ms. Jesse A. Hervey and Mr. Fred W. Strong. He was the oldest of nine children. Deacon Strong dedicated his life to Christ at an early age. He was a member of the True Vine Baptist Church in DeKalb, Texas. He graduated from Marvin Pine High School in 1962. During the summer of that year, he moved to Austin, Texas. Upon his arrival to Austin, He met and married Nannie Mae Holmes. During his married years, he developed a lifelong love for his family, his community, horses, dogs, sports, and gardening. In fact, he was the founding President of the trail riding club entitled Four Shoes and a Horse in Manor, Texas. Freddie was very involved in his community through Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a dedicated deacon for thirty plus years. He also worked faithfully on the finance committee for many years. Deacon Strong also would serve as the “maintenance man” and “yard man” as needed. He “loved” his church family. Freddie was employed for the majority of his life by both Anthony’s Laundry & Dry Cleaners as well as Eanes ISD. One of his most favorite things he enjoyed doing while employed at Anthony’s was to have breakfast and lunch with his friends at Nau’s Enfield Drug Store. At Nau’s he never met a stranger and all people became his friend. Deacon Strong will be greatly missed by his family and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife (Nannie); his son (Fredrick Wayne), his parents, his sisters (Virginia White and Roxie Jeanette Griffin), his brother (Charles Orr). Deacon Strong leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Sandra G. Strong Blount (her husband Dr. Farris Blount, Jr.) His grandsons Fredrick P. Strong Sr, Farris Blount III, and Joshua Blount. One great grandson Fredrick P. Strong Jr. Also left to cherish his memory are his 3 brothers; George Hervey (Kay) of Beaumont, Paul Hervey (Betty) of Tulsa, OK, Bobby Crowder (Dorothy) of Manor. 2 sisters; Stella Ubi and Evaugh Darden both of Austin, Texas. Sister-in-laws Evelynn Thomas, of San Antonio, Diane Holmes Graham and Eloise Holmes of Austin. Brother-in-laws David and Donald Holmes of Austin. Also a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to sincerely express their thanks to Dr. Jason Melear and his staff at Texas Oncology. The nurses and staff of the 4th floor at Seton Medical Center for his very brief stay. The family also expresses extreme gratitude for Mrs. Diane Holmes Graham, Loretta Griffin, Charles Mckinney, Oletha and William Griffin for their love and support to Deacon Strong during his journey with his illness.
