Darrell “Donnell” Washington, 58 of Pflugerville, TX, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2023. Donnell was born to Corene L. Washington-Tanksley and George Clark on May 17, 1965, in Austin, Texas. He was baptized at an early age at Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Taylor, TX. As a young child, Donnell attended Public Schools in Colorado Springs, CO, and Austin, TX. He later moved to Taylor, TX where he would go on to graduate from Taylor High School with the class of 1983. — “Once a Duck, Always a Duck”! There he excelled in track and field and was best known for his talents as a sprinter and a member of the 4 x 100 relay team. After graduating, he attended ITT Technical Institute in Waco, TX. Donnell went on to join the United States Army where he was stationed at Ft. Polk, LA. Upon returning to civilian life, he was employed by Dell Computers and the Internal Revenue Service. As a teen, he loved eating honeybuns, and reading and adding to his extensive collection of DC comic books. He could always be found listening to music somewhere in the house. His favorite artists were Prince, Zapp & Roger, Michael Jackson, Whodini, the Sugar Hill Gang, and Cameo just to name a few. His smile and robot dance moves could light up a room! Music was his happy place! He also had a love for classic movies, Star Trek, Star Wars, and martial arts, coupled with anything Bruce Lee. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his father, George Clark, his paternal grandparents, Willie and R.I.B. Clark, his maternal grandparents, Leslie & Otis Mae Washington, & Uncle Lee Arthur Washington. Donnell leaves to cherish his memory; mother, Corene L. Washington-Tanksley of Pflugerville, TX; bonus dad, Elester Williams of Webberville, TX; children Jermaine Cornell Washington of Taylor, TX, Stacey Washington and Isaiah Washington of Lexington, TX; grandchildren, Kennen, Aria, Emyr Washington of Austin, TX; sister Alicia "Lisa" Williams-Rice & and brother-in-law Min. Marcus D. Rice of Austin, TX, brother Demond Sandford (Betty) of Taylor, TX; nephews Marcus D. Cummings of Austin, TX and Da’Drian Rice of St. Louis, MI; aunts Leslie Hill (Don Sr.), Lorene Washington-Mays (L.D.) of Taylor, TX, Dee Dee Washington of Round Rock, TX, Ralphe Wilma Clark, and Great Aunt Eva Aldridge of Taylor, TX. He also leaves his cousins Don Hill Jr. (Jennifer) of Dallas, TX, Reggie Hill (Johanna) of Georgetown, TX, Regina Hill (Lenard) of Austin, TX, Kimberly Hill of Taylor, TX, La’Ronda Washington of Katy, TX, Tara Washington of Denver, CO, LaNay Abogah (Richard) of Thornton, CO, Freddie Blue of Houston, TX, Pastor David Henderson III, (Sabrina) of Dallas, TX, and Dietrick Benson (Soraida) of Taylor, TX, Niece, Ynobe Miller of Taylor, TX and Nephew Devon Sanford of Taylor, TX and a host of other family members and friends. He was loved by all and missed by many! Services will be held at the Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Taylor, TX on September 19, 2023, at 11 a.m.
