They named her Bettie Jo, the namesake of her late maternal grandmother Betty Wright. Bettie grew up in a Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age at St. Paul Primitive Baptist Church under the late Reverend Toad. In 1982 she joined and served as a faithful member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, under the late Reverend Q.S. Goins and current Pastor Byron K. Green. Bettie loved to praise the Lord and one of the ways she displayed her love was through song. Bettie was a strong soprano with Mt. Carmel Sanctuary Choir, Elgin Community Choir under the late Phillip “Binky” Thomas and St. John District Chorus. Bettie loved to shout her praises to the Lord. She also was a faith member of the B.L.H. Bradshaw Mission II. She had a joyful spirit, a very contagious laugh with a beautiful smile that brightened the lives of everyone she encountered. Bettie attended Simms Elementary, Kealing Jr. High School and graduated from Old LC Anderson High School with the Class of 1966. She was devoted to the “Black and Gold.” Bettie cherished everything about Old LC Anderson High School and made sure she represented the Yellow Jackets. She served as a Secretary for the Alumni Chapter of the Class of 66' where she enjoyed their annual reunions, prayer line calls and any additional pop- up gatherings they may have had. Bettie found life-long companionship with the love of her life the late Bobby Harrell Sr., whom she married in March 1966. To this union they were blessed with four beautiful children. Bettie worked as a diligent and well-respected employee at St. David's Hospital. She also was Branch Manager in the Austin and Waco Region for Farmers Insurance where she retired after 35 years. Bettie went a little higher and retired for a second time from the State of Texas after 10 years of service. Bettie committed her life and legacy which she deeply loved and cherished to her family. She enjoyed family reunions, holiday events, studying the word of God with her BSF family and often watched a good western or hallmark movie. On September 23, 2024, the Lord called his angel to her sweet resting place. Welcoming Bettie to rest is her parents, her husband, and two brothers Irvin Wright Sr. and Booker T. Thompson Jr. Bettie leaves to cherish: Her children; Alysia (Cyril) Friday, Bobby Harrell, Jr., Dellanda (Andre) Causey, Sonja Harrell-Lewis; bonus son: Derwin Mayberry. Grandchildren: Roneishia Harrell, Jennifer (Nijaune Sr.) Winston, Justin McDonald, Bobby Harrell III, Jermaine (Danecia) Roberson Sr., Cyril Friday II, Christopher (Phyllica) Harrell Sr., Keith (Gloria) Harrell, Anson (Mia) Friday and Bryston Haston. Great Grandchildren: Jaylan Roberson, Jermaine Roberson Jr., Mya Harrell, Aubrie Huewitt, Kaine Harrell, Nijaune Winston Jr., Christopher Harrell Jr., Alannah Friday, Journee Roberson and Keon Harrell. Brothers: Eugene (Elveta) Wright, Walter Thompson. Sister: Brenda M. Carrington. Brother-in-laws: Vernon (Ann) Mitchell, Douglas (Debra) Collins, Clay (Diana) Barker, Donald Ray (Margie) Harrell. Sister-in-laws: Dorothy Brown, Oreal Lockridge, Doris Burton, Shirley Temesgen. And a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends.
