He was the eighteenth child of 22 born to Andrew Cyphers, Sr. and Helen Smith Cyphers in Caldwell County, Texas on April 9, 1936. Arthur began his formative years being educated in the Lockhart education school system and learned how to endure hard work on the family farm. Arthur met and married Lillian Rowe. To that union were born two sons, Don and Kim. Having an adventurous mind and wanting a better life, he decided to move to Los Angeles, California in the late 1950’s to live with his brother Curtis. After moving to Los Angeles, he met and married Rosa Lee Bacon. To that union were born two daughters, Shelia and Mauriska. He later married Johnnie Hall and gained an adopted daughter, Jacqueline. In 1981, he met and married Yvonne Artry. To this union he gained a stepdaughter, Selene. During his 30 plus years in Los Angeles, he learned various jobs and experienced many opportunities. He pursued a career as a self-employed painting contractor and did this for more than 40 years. He moved back to Austin, Texas in 1997. As a child growing up, the family fellowshipped with the local methodist church. Arthur gave his life to Christ at an early age. After returning to Austin, he joined the Rosewood Avenue Missionary Baptist Church. He later joined St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in South Austin. As a member there, he participated in the Usher’s Ministry, the Community of Hope, and the Brotherhood of St. Andrews Ministries. He remained an active member until his health failed. Arthur was an exciting individual who loved sporting events, especially horse racing. He gained many friends. He loved to cook, entertain, and be entertained. Arthur was preceded in death by both parents, 20 siblings, a grandson, Don James Cyphers, and adopted daughter, Jacqueline Hughes-Roland. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving and devoted wife, Yvonne Artry Cyphers of Austin, TX; sons, Reverend Don G. Cyphers (Debra) of Austin, Kim Cyphers (Lorena) of Houston, TX, daughters, Shelia Rochelle Cyphers of Los Angeles, CA, Mauriska Angela Cyphers, of Paradise, NV, one stepdaughter, Selene Artry of Los Angeles, CA, his last remaining sibling and brother, Robert Cyphers of Bastrop, TX, twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
