Colossians 3:17 On Sunday, July 24, 2022, while the sun was high in the sky. God opened the doors of heaven and welcomed Annie home. She had prepared for her journey and said her goodbyes. She closed her eyes and went on home to be with her Lord and Savior along with her parents, Walter Jones, Pauline Jones-Gooden, and Stepfather Rentie Gooden. Brother, Willie Jones, and Sister and Brother-in-law Frankie and Frank Daniels. Annie attended Mt. Olive Elementary and Junior High School in Garfield, Texas. She attended LC Anderson High School where she graduated in the class of 1956. Annie went on to Nixon Clay where she completed classes in Business. Annie’s preparation began when she accepted Christ as a young girl. She attended Comanche Baptist Church in Garfield, Texas under the leadership of Pastor Rev. J.L Thompson. Later as a young lady, she served at St. Stephens until she moved on to serve at Greater Love Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Isaiah Moore (1976-1979). Annie would also serve under the late Pastor Marlin Carter (1979-1997) and current Pastor Isaac Grant (1998- present) as Church Secretary, Finance Clerk, Youth Leader, Mission I & II member, and Golden Harvest Ministry. Annie was preparing for her journey as she served the Lord. If you knew Annie, you knew where she stood with the Lord. Annie loved serving and giving, her family started a project for under privilege children at Harris Elementary to help provide them with needed clothing items. Annie started a blanket drive to help the homeless. She financially assisted in the family project to make scarves and hats for the homeless. In her 42 years of employment, Annie worked at Texas Instruments (TI) of Austin for approximately 22 years. After the closing of TI, Annie worked at Motorola Oakhill for 15 years and retired. After enjoying retirement for a few years, she returned to the workforce at Round Rock Independent School District where she used her time and patience to assist in getting young children with disabilities to and from school. Annie met and married Lonnie Colson, who adopted Annie’s son Homer Earl Colson as his own. Earl came home from Fresno California to care for his mother in her later years. Watching the Dallas Cowgirls, which they fondly called their favorite team was a favorite pastime of theirs while eating a Taco Cabana salad. They never missed a game even during a losing season. Upon surviving a stroke, Earl enlisted the help of his cousins Cheryl and Sammy Reese to assist with his and Annie’s care. Annie leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life: Son, Homer Earl Colson of Round Rock Texas, Sisters; Cordia B. Hill of Austin, Texas, Betty J. Miller of Sacramento, California, Carol A. McLaurin of Pflugerville, Texas, Wilmer L. Parkinson of Walnut, California, and Hana High of Marshall, Texas. Caregivers; Cheryl, and Sammy Reese. A host of nieces and nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
