Sharon Lynette Walker Clay was born on July 9th, 1955 to her proud parents, Tommie Earlene Scales Walker and George Crawford Walker. She was a woman of God, with a heart of gold and a smile that could brighten even the darkest days. Sharon, along with her siblings, grew up in beautiful & historic East Austin, and thrived amidst the times of cultural growth and acceptance. She accepted our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ at an early age, and was a member of Rock Quarry Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She attended Anderson High School and was a member of the Jackette Drill Team. In 1973, Sharon graduated from Austin High School. She first worked as an intern with Mr. Volma Overton and the NAACP before entering the workforce with the Internal Revenue Service. Not long after starting with the IRS, Sharon made the transition to the Department of Veteran Affairs, where she quickly blossomed in the field of human resources. Her genuine love for helping people was a driving force behind her career at the VA. She was not only a vast wealth of knowledge, but her always cheerful and positive spirit was known and loved throughout her office. In early 2017, she retired after 44 years of Federal service and dedication. Sharon was also affectionately known as the Cake Lady, a well-earned title. Her passion for baking started small but soon turned into one of her most notable hobbies. She made delicious cakes and treats for all of her family and friends. Everyone always looked forward to Aunt Sharon's famous Birthday, Wedding, Retirement, Family Reunion and Specialty cakes! She married Otis Williams and to that union a daughter, Audra Elayne Williams, was born. In May 1982, she married Shelby Lee Clay. To this union two children were born, Lisa Clay Taylor (Chad) and Shelby Lee Clay Jr. (Atitaya). On Friday, October 26, 2018, the Lord summoned his faithful angel Sharon home. She was preceded in death by her parents, George & Tommie Walker. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her husband of 36 years, Shelby, children Audra, Lisa and Shelby Jr., her most precious grandbabies, Sophia Clay and Cameron Taylor, brothers George Stanley Walker (Markelle) and Daniel Walker (Carolyn), sisters Annell Stewart (Earl), Tommi Jones and Brenda Walker, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends. She was truly a light that will live on with all those she touched
